    Acetone

After reading the website I decided to try acetone on my Honda 900 Hornet, which I ride to work everyday. I do 305KM a week exactly and travel the same route every day.
I nearly always get exactly 270KM before the red light comes on and it always takes about 17 litres give or take 1/10.
Put 35CC of acetone in immediately after filling last week. Tank is 19 litres.
Red light came on today at 265Km, which is consistent considering the terrible traffic yesterday.
My assessment is that acetone makes NO difference to fuel economy of a fuel injected 900 CC motorcycle anyway..

    G'day Phillip,

What made you try the Acetone in the fuel? Just out of interest.

I use it to clean the Intercooler out on my TDI - as its a good oil based clean and recommended by LR for this job.

There was a thread here last week which referred to a website where some guy reckoned it gave 20%plus fuel economy gain.
I generally try these things on my motorcycle first, eg tin pellets, as it is cheaper and quicker to see a result than with the Rangie.
Except the Hiclone. Fell for that one.

i run acetone in my race car.
if its mixed at 5% per volume of fuel it will give
1 point on the ron scale. any more than 5% and you will be buying
    new pistons. :?
i to dont think it will affect economy, because it burns
cold and changes the flame burn in the cylinder, thus giving
    more bang for your buck!
you will get more gain if you adjust your timing to suit the
    acetone, slightly advanced.

if it makes more power it will use more juice.

I went to a BP fuels talk last year. Toluene (?) ads one RON per 10%. However, it can only be used up to a certain point. If the fuel is already full of volatiles you may be exceeding the optimum.

BP Ultimate isn't high in volitiles, so is ideal for adding toluene. Shell optimax is not as good as it has more volatiles to start with.

My Lotus is constantly battling pinging, but it has very high compression. I haven't used toluene yet, but I would consider it if the car keeps pinging.

Works a treat in Ultimate, I have a mate that works at a chemical mob at Lyton near the port and he got me some.

    Bon Pierre.

Also good for removing deleted decal residue.

But that advice belongs in another thread.

where it was talking about acetone in fuel ...i think it said it will take a couple of tankfuls before results were noticed...also to start with a weaker mix ie less acetone.
