Thread: Transfer not engaging properly

The transfer case in my 86 County wont engage low range fully and jumps out gear easily. I have checked the shifter mechanism on the gearbox and it can travel further if the linkage is disconnected (so not the problem).

The problem appears to be either the linkage or in the transfer case ( hard to see/feel ).

Does anyone know what this might be?

try changing into low range whilst moving at about5km p/h and se how it goes?
