    Air locker leeking

Hi, I have a 86 county and I brought it off a bloke that died of cancer. When I got it, It had both front and rear buttons on the dash. but only the rear diff lock worked and I thought (because I could not ask him) the front did not have a locker. No hose to the diff. On the week end I found that the front diff did have a plug on the top of the diff. Does anyone Know how to connect the air hose into the diff it self? It looks like you un-screw the plug but how do you join the air hose inside the diff? Thanks Deano.

you sure that plug is for a locker and not just a breather?

can you get a picture of it up on here?

The plug is for the diff lock. The diff breather is there as well. I need to know how to attach it to the diff. Thanks Deano

it shouldnt be any different to the back diff...

have a look at that one.....

if it was connected you sould have the plumbing hanging around under the car somewhere....

it should be hooked up to the compressor already.

if it was removed intentionally its possible that the front locker may have been removed...do you know if there is definitely a locker in there?

There should be a copper pipe which the air line fitting presses onto, then it goes up to the solenoid part of your compressor.

When it goes onto the copper pipe, do you just slip it over the copper or it here a fitting I have to get??? Thanks Deano

I have just purchased a Defender with Diff Locks already fitted.

Do you have an ARB shop/agent handy as I had a leaking air line to the front locker and the staff pointed me in the right direction. They have repair kits for around $20 which includes 2 x olives, 2 x nuts, air line and 2 x little brass things that push up inside the air line to stop it from bending at the fitting and for the olive to compress onto.

Do you have two solinoids at the compressor

Is the bulk head fitting (I think that's what they call it) still fitted/screwed in to the top of the diff, this is what the air line, olive and nut screw onto.

I don't have any copper tube fitted, mine is fitted with blue high pressure airline. If the bulk head is inplace all you should need is airline and fittings, if you do not have and ARB close by any air line/pneumatic shop should have the pieces you will need and probably cheaper. ARB indicated that there are a few differant bulk heads for differant applications, not sure what the differances are.

I am new to lockers and this I have only picked over the last couple of months.

The copper tube is internal to the diff.
It is what transfers the air from the blue tubeb into the actual locker.
