rangie transferbox - which one?
Picked up a transferbox supposedly ex Rangerover.
How do I determine which model? I'm assuming at this stage its from a 3 speed 727. I hope so as I want to mate it to a chrysler 318 v8.
Dont let that bit of heresy put you off educating me.
Look forward to your replies.

What's the number on the transfer box? That will certainly help identify it. Post the info and we'll see.

In all probability, Dave, but I was after the serial number eg 23D123456E so could authenticate the tfr box origin, if you see what I mean.

Cool then.
The only transfer fitted behind these from Rover was the LT230, especially if it was from a RR.
If is Jeep/Mopar or what ever i think they are all LH drop anyway.
Dave.

The number can be found stamped into the passenger side of the transfer box casing below the mainshaft rear bearing just above the bottom cover plate OR on the milled rear face rear of the transfer box casing below the PTO cover plate.

Yep, correctomundo. Out of (probably) early 4 dr, perhaps even Phase 2 (85 ish) RR. How lucky can you be? LT 230T. All bits available from everywhere, even Q gears if you want to be bothered. Important bit is the mainshaft input gear. Check for fretting in the splines and whether the gear has been cross drilled for adequate lubrication.
If you need bits, shop around; but compare apples with apples - some of the cheaper bits have fireblight!
