ZF conversion on my 83 rangie- Finally finished!!!
Okay, it's been a long 4 weekends but finally I have the ZF auto up and running. Only a couple of small tweaks to do now (electrical mainly) and it will be spot on.
Anyone who is considring doing this conversion on there old Rangie it is well worth it. The thought of having to change gears again or put up with that noist LT95 lump is a thing of the past. it uis importnt that your engine and running gear is fine to start with otherwise there's no point in doing it is there :?:
Total cost worked out to about $900 or so. The most expensive item was unexpectidly the cooler pipes for the auto, also having the late 3.9 radiator with the auto trans cooler lines to boot. I had to have them made up because the originals were fouling on the A/C comp (the earlier Rangie ones are below the P/S pump) at $352 8O I almost fell over at that price, but it wwas done and they work a treat. Also had to put a longer spline spud shaft in because the LT230 was an ex-95 Disco job, sop another $225 for a newie was splurged on
Well, I got it going and it drives well. The 3.5 V8 slug-box doesn't do it justice (it's not forever, the 4.3 stroker rebuild may be done early next year when funds permit) but the Rangie's now a totally diffrent vehicle compared to the LT95 4 speed manual it once was.
I'll keep you posted on how it goees over the next few months. I'll have to get the rest of the pics up on webshots of the finished job
