Internal Rollcages for Defenders
Hi all,
As we all know if a Defender or Disco falls over it wont look good....
2 tonnes of steel and alloy crush the roof fairly quick to seat height.
I've done some research and found a place in Australia that makes cages at the right price.
Some years back i had a Bolt in cage in my Rally car. Great bit of Kit. it went together perfect and had no problems with it. it was from this same company.
OK there is a catch..... i'm in Melb and Bond Roll Bars are in Sydney.
Bond have done a couple of Fender cages, but it is only the rear hoop they have, not the front hoop to go behind the driver.
So i'm after a fellow Landy bloke in Sydney with a Fender to go to Bond Cages and leave it there for a day or 2 so thay can take measurements ect.
Price for Front hoop and rear hoop and conecting legs and rear stays comes in at about $800-$900. Now this is cheap as try getting one built for less from the fella's who do supercars ect.
They will be Bolt in and made from Cold Drawn Seamless tube.
OK Facts.... if you have no cage and roll the landy you love to fang in.... Good luck... you might walk out of it.
If you have a half cage (like above) then you will walk out and might only cop a few cuts and bruises...
Then if you have the Full Camel cage.... Hey you are the Man....
I priced the UK ones and they are not cheap.... $3k plus...
So who would like a Cage in there Fender and i'm sure if we can get a few built at once the price will come down.
They will not harm, scratch or dint your baby if you take it there as they only have to measure not use yours as a test Jig.
Let me know if you can help and i'll find out more on what they need.
Ohh they can do Disco's and Rangies as well....

If anyone is keen let me know.
Otherwise i have some designs and i might have a crack at my own.
But it would be nice to get one made from another place....
Kai,
I have a fear of being crushed.... after having a few scares in Rally's and having our Paddock bomb Hilux and Suzuki fall over, A Cage makes sence.

It is rare that it will happen, but i would hate to loose my Wife or myself due to a simple mistake when trying to negotiate a climb like these....

And here is a cage like Marks Camel.

So would this be body mounted or Chasis?
Would they make the chassis plates for that price?
If so 8)
Awesome price.
I'll find out the number of a mob in bayswater who made a mates cage for his comp Landy.
It was just a rear double hoop (ute) with twin crosses then he got Brown Davis to bend A pillar supports and he then welded himself.

Brown Davis is renowned for great work and the price to match.....
I think it is body mounted, to chassis mount it you then have a flex problem as the body is on rubber??
But it is designed to stop you crushing yourself. Mounted correctly it would be ok. On an extreme roll over it could punch thru. But what is a write off compared to your life....
$1k is cheap insurance to save your life if all turned sour..
I'm not planning for it to happen, but i want to know i'm better off....

i believe cheezy racing in Bayswater will do 6 point cages starting at around $1200 or so...(dont quote me)
As will PGS in Mornington at around that unpainted...
But I believe Cheezy no longer does one off work as he is too busy with the commercial side of things... but worth a call...

Totally agree.
A 6pt is high on my priority list after a few incedents that I've seen recently.
