    Can anyone identify this part???

can anyone tell me what this part is in the picture? It is to the rear right of the engine cover on a 2001 freelander it is something to do with my auto transmission as I change gear it clicks/arc- is it supposed to do that?? It looks like it has a connection to the air intake hose too, any help would be great

Just guessing but it looks like a purge valve for the charcoal canister, to burn fumes collected from the fuel tank. They generally only open at a certain engine load and speed to prevent the engine from running rich.
