Thread: Battery Discounts for Aulro members

To the battery guys, was reading some specs on some deep cycle batteries and some of them say, that max operating temperature is 50 deg's :!: Now I'm pretty sure the engine bays, especially in the V8's get well above 50 deg's !

Any idea why it would say that :?:

Cause over 50deg is bloody hot and no one should be working

At that temp its time to stop for a beer :wink:

i just spent $70 and got a brand new one....90AH deep cycle....
the physical dimensions are the same as the original defender battery.....


but i think i may have killed the original battery by running it flat a few times
with the good ol' engel......</span>

Hi matbor, the theory is, wet cell batteries tolerate heat better that high tech batteries like AGMs.

The flip side is that AGMs are supposed to handle rough terrain better that wet cells.

They also have the advantage of being able to be fitted inside the cab if needed and mounted at any angle, EG on their side if needed.

For my money standard wet cells do their job and do it at a much lower cost, but each to his own.

Drivesafe, your on the money. The deep cycle is under the seat "snuggly" beside the cranker and being a dual setup is always on the charge. Probably gets used a few times ayear to varying degrees (10% - low voltage cut out). At three year, as mentioned, probably a good campsite backup till it dies. I reckon some of it's longevity is due to all that crust I shook off the plates in the Gulf last year!!

Hi again miker, before you get another battery, try checking all your cable and cable connections.

One of the most common cause for batteries failing to charge properly is to low a charge voltage getting to the batteries and the most common reasons for this is inadequate sized cable and dirty or corroding connections and with your batteries being so far from the alternator, you need to keep an eye on cable and connections to keep the voltage drop to a minimum.

No dramas. It charges fine (all cable is battery lead gear) Drop in charge from altenator to batt is quite low. Had the opportunity to pick up an old pedal power dynamo at a garage sale a few moths ago, it was from an old Traeger radio - the cook said she wouldn't pedal the bloody thing so another chance goes begging. :wink:
