    Fading Lights

    Hi All

For a while now the headlights on my disco noticably dim when I brake, indicate, the aircon comes on etc. Obviously the extra power drain by whatever accessory kicking in is causing this. It is running an Optima calcium battery of unknown age and I'm wondering if this is past its useby date or does it indicate a potential fault with the alternator?

Any suggestions on what to check/change?

    Cheers

    Cameron

Try using a voltimeter to check the condition of the battery it should be betweeen 12-13volts reading

Sounds like a weak battery earth. Try cleaning the earth connections to the body and motor.

For peace of mind you can get the battery electronically load tested at auto shops however usual load test is starting the motor. If it winds the motor easily there can't be much wrong with it.
