My 2000 Defender is like that. The outer edge of the nut should provision to be flattens to lock it on the stub
Hi all,
I have a fairly urgent question regarding TD5 defender front hub.
I removed mine today to fit new brake rotors. Now I noticed that there was only a Spacing Washer and a Hub adjusting Nut.
Not Lock tab washer or lock nut.
Same on both sides.
The Rave manual only has Front axle for tdi not for TD5.
Are these meant to be like this?
So far all I can find is they should be as the tdi.
I have not had the hubs off since I have had the car. The bearings are in good nic and does not appear to be any movement.

Ok seems the Rave lacks this info. Post 99 Defenders only have the lock nut. When set the outer edge of the nut is peened into position.

it also lists the 20 or so different spacer shims to go between the bearings the stake nut is done up to something like 400nm...
but you can convert back to the old school no spacer and 2x slim line nuts and lock tab and oil fed.

If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
I've got a good stock of different shims and a couple of spare stake nuts up in Perth if you need anything in a hurry Craig.
Cheers,
Tim
All good and sorted. Just blown away that the Rave does not mention the difference at all. I would have thought that was one thing that should be in the TD5 supplement, but no nothing, thats what confused me and then finding out had to do up to 150 pound foot.

Thanks for that I will save it as it is not in my Rave manual either under TD5 supplement or tdi.
