LR Sympathetic Mechanic in Roma Qld

    Hi All,

We're on a short roam to the Roma region (Sorry!) with the caravan and our 'doughtnut' rubber coupling has decided to self-destruct.

Yes, I did check it before we left and while it did have a few little cracks I thought it would be OK. And No, because this is just a short jaunt, I didn't bring my full collection of spares (which includes a new 'doughnut')!

However, thanks to the nice people at MR Automotive in Redcliff, there should be a shiny new one waiting at the Post Office tomorrow morning.

Now, I can change it myself but if there were a LR sympathetic mechanic in Roma Qld, it would save me grovelling in the dirt to do it. Any suggestions, good people?

    Thanks,
    Ian &

Don't get worried about Land Rover friendly mechanic.
A mechanic of any bread should be able to undo 6 bolts and replace it.
    Cheers, Kyle

As Alien says - there is nothing technical about the job, any mechanic should have no trouble doing it. Unfortunately I haven't lived in Roma for fifty years, so I really can't help.

    Hi Guys,

Yes, I realize the job is very basic and, as I mentioned, I'm equipped to do it myself.

My reticence in going to any old mechanic is due to past experiences where, when you roll up in a Landy, the resident spanner jockeys start to roll their eyes and proceed to tell me how all Land Rovers (IIAs??) are notorious for breaking axles, etc...

So, just thought I'd ask before pulling into a roadside rest area and doing the job in the dust.

(and John, I'm disappointed that you didn't note some young tyro 50 years ago that I could call on in 2015!)

2 x 19mm Pat. And a decent lever to compress the shaft away from the centralising peg.

    Gee thanks Pat & Justin,

Confirmation of the spanner sizes is just what I need when it's 34 C and blowing a gale of dust our here.

Now, what I could really use is one of you blokes turning up first thing tomorrow to actually do the job for me!!

PS: Just kidding. The people at the farmstay place here outside Roma have agreed to let me use their shelter shed to work on Daphne tomorrow morning if the bits arrive. As long as I don't drop oil everywhere. My goodness, can I ever guarantee that with a Landy????

I did know a really good mechanic in Roma - he has been dead for over twenty years (smoker!).

    Hi,

When we had problems with the defender back in 2012 in Roma (intercooler hose) the local RACQ contractor was familiar with Land Rovers and was really helpful.

Might be worth be worth finding which business he is with if you are not going to try yourself and need a mechanic.

    Richard
