So whats the options for rear Salisburys.
ARB do a 3.5 but not a 4.7
Any 4.7 Sals lockers out there?
Good time to buy ARB's there currently $995 plus fitting each til the end of November or $1195 with compressor.
Dunno why there's a hatred towards ARB air lockers, I've had 2 sets in the past and not had any issues (both new and second hand). It comes down to the donkeys who fit them, a bad install can make your life a misery. I had one fitted by someone on the cheap but it always leaked then next time around I paid to have another set fitted by ARB, never had an issue at all.

Spot on.. I had my ARB centres fitted by a diff specialist (a very well respected one) and never had a single issue...
Heavy handed installers who don't lubricate things properly or fit the air ring incorrectly, slicing the oring, are the reason for failure.

My Perentie has a Detroit in the rear and a Ashcroft ATB in the front. It all works well together and is very simple in operation. Don't forget you will need axles, flanges and I'd suggest some Ashcroft CVs in there too. Mine both had hairline cracks when I took them apart. May as well rebuild the swivels while there too... It can all get rather expensive.
After lots of head scratching that combination is also my choice on our 110 with Salisbury rear.
The Trutrac is booked in next week for fitting. The Ashcroft ATB may come later.
This choice is not for off roading as such, but we have been doing a lot of heavy (3.5 ton) towing but does include an element of crossing fields. We have experienced poor traction even on sealed surfaces on some English lanes with short sharp hills and loose fine gravel on the surface. Certainly not bad enough for full lockers though.
Another consideration against driver-input full lockers is that occasionally the Defender may be driven by someone who does not understand the concept, or when to use them, and just as importantly when not to use them.
Hi , I won't discuss true tracks etc, though i have one in my car front axle and like it, and soon to fit an Ashcroft ATB to the center diff.
I have a maxi-drive in the back and love it, it's been bulletproof for many years.
But Ashcroft is good gear but you might get a surprise on the cost now the $A is 2.20 per pound.
If i had to have 2 lockers it would be hard to go past 2 x ARB, local supply an back up. I'd probably up grade the back axles and flanges and take my chances with the front. To control the costs a bit. I'm not convinced automatic upgrade of the drive line, cv etc is required because you fit lockers, it depends a lot on how you use them. My thoughts are if 4 wheels are locked together and used on the surface with some give, high torque ( breakage situation is less likely to be encountered than without lockers, where one wheel could be spinning at high speed and suddely stopped or bought down to the speed of the vehicle . cheers simmo
