save yourself a lot of heartache..
get a stage 1 series III or a v8 county and drop in the ZF from a rangie or disco.
Hi, Buddy.
I just felt in love with this Land Rover Series 3 after saw it on the street. I really want to get one of this car. I love the way it looks, but I need more power and reliability for a daily car. In my dream, I would put an automatic V8 engine on it and some modern stuff like a double blower air cond, a power steering, ABS etc.
There are few questions I want to ask you:
Is it possible to put all of this? Do you have any suggestion about which engine I could use? I'm currently looking at a Land Rover 3.5 or 4 liters V8 engine, but anyway you might suggest the better one.
Using this new automatic V8 engine, what do I need to replace in order to adjust?
Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

Welcome to the forum.
Most of that is doable (not sure about the ABS brakes but a good disk brake conversion is available) but as mentioned, it is a huge amount of work. You would end up spending 2 or 3 times what the car would be worth doing all this I think, and unless you're planning to do all the work yourself, the budget would soon be out of control. Then you have all the engineering issues to get through and sorted so it can be registered.
So, as mentioned - a Stage 1 or V8 County may be a better option - both have factory V8's and doing an Auto conversion on those isn't a huge job compared to starting with a standard series 3.
Good luck anyhow - would like to see a thread started if you decide to do any of this.![]()
