Starter Motor Series 3
Hello All,
Is it a repairable fault that the starter motor will rotate but not throw out the cog so that it turns the petrol motor over?
The starter motor has been intermittent for some time and has been getting progressively worse.
There are times when the key in the ignition is turned and nothing happens - not even a solenoid click. Sometimes the sound of ratcheting. Every now and then the starter motor would engage and get the motor running. Lately there is just a "whir" and no engagement.
The next question - the motor is a Holden 202 six cylinder Red motor. What are the chances that the started motor is a Holden by Bosch BXH137 or a Land Rover starter motor?
Do Bosch write - stamp their starter motors so when I take the old one out I can identify whether it is a Holden starter motor? If Bosch do write their code on it where on the starter motor should I look for their marks?
If the starter motor is out is it easy to check out the ring gear, just in case it too is on its way out?
The gearbox and transfer case is Land Rover Series 3 LWB - ex six cylinder 2.6 Litre motor.
Kind Regards
Lionel

Lionel,
The starter should be a GM one. Have you tested the starter directly with jumper leads or similar to eliminate solenoid/wiring issues ?
