This happened to mine when the starter crapped itself - took the battery out, then just clicked after the new battery was installed. My guess is the starter has done what mine did.
Can anyone tell me if there is anything I should be looking at after a new battery is put in and starter just clicks.
This is on a TD6, 03 model

Have you tried tapping the solenoid?. Pat
Got it from Old Blighty - British Parts - https://www.britishparts.co.uk/produ...otor-NAD000090
The cheapest I could find in Aus at the time was around $750. IIRC I landed one of these for around $460 I think at the time - the starter was 155 quid back then, they have gone up a tad, but with exchange rates now, it may be cheaper to buy local.
The old starter had copper dripping out of it - it had completely shorted out, but luckily was an open circuit when I connected the new battery or that would have been toast too, or at least given me a very unpleasant surprise while connecting it.

It's just been involved in a reasonably big rear-ender smash with a truck. Was fine prior.
