Whirring Noise
Hi all
98 tdi automatic, 100000k on the clock.
At low revs - before the turbo comes on - I am hearing a low pitched whirring sound that goes wiith engine revs - seems to be more noticable when the engine is cold. The noise may still be there at higher revs but may be hidden by engine noise. I know this doesnt give people much to go on but thought it might be a known tdi thing. 8O  :?:
thanks

open the bonnet and try work out if the sound is coming fom under bonnet or under car...
If under bonnet, try and locate offending part using a screwdriver as a stethascope....
Hope that helps somewhat

How long have you had the Disco? In other words is this a recent phenomenon?
Some are quieter than others. A snorkelled Tdi disco will transmit more engine noise than a a non snorkelled for instance.

Handbrake's tdi does the same. I reckon it's the alternator loading up after the initial big discharge hit on starting. Just a theory...
