I want to replace the carbs on my "96" 3.5 V8 with SU HIF carbs as they are apparently vastly superior.
Firstly, will the SU's bolt onto the same stock manifold?
The HIF 44 seems to be the standard issue, is this correct? If not, what is?
Are there any pitfalls to avoid?
Anybody got some SU's for sale, crap condition preferably as would rebuild and restore as new?
Doing a ground up resto on my series 2a 1970 109, just fitting up the engine and drivetrain and want the SU induction noise to top it off.
Any advice welcomed?
Cheers.
I don't know a lot about the various SU's used on V8's but I do have a pair of these things that came off a Rover V8. They were originally off an early 70's 3500S 10.5:1 compression engine that has been dismantled and passed from shed to shed for around 30 years. The carbs concerned still have the Rover air cleaner elbows fitted. I assume they bolt on the same as the Strombergs but I'm sure someone else will chime in on that subject.

Huh?
They work exactly the same in principle.
My understanding is that CDs have much superior idling/ cold start circuits vs SUs and that is why they are used on USA ( and Australian) jags and rovers to meet emissions.
If you can get pre 1980 CDs , they have an adjustable main jet so the mixture is easily adjusted.
I doubt you will see any difference for same size carbs .
