    Disco Brake Calipers and Rotors

I have purchased a couple of ex-Defence rear axle assemblies from the 6X6 Perentie disposals. The reason for this is to acquire the special disk brake hubs and brackets for retrofitting to my Defender 6X6.

The information I have is that the 4 pot callipers are the same items used on the front (non-ventilated rotors) of Disco 1 or Range Rovers classic.

If this is the case, can I swap the solid rotors for the ventilated rotors and corresponding callipers? I guess what I'm asking is the relative position of the calliper mounting and the thickness/offset of the rotors as well as if there is a difference between the PCD of the rotor mounting on the hub.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Would pay to check how many brake lines go into the calipers,

some early front Disco solid disc calipers had 2 brake lines with 3 bleed nipples, I imagine they would be the single line calipers from later models as they are on the back, as you said, Regards Frank.

    single line callipers

apparently (anecdotally) the same callipers as an early Defender 90

I don't know whether the calipers will fit your axle housings or not, but if push comes to shove couldn't you use the axle housings from 6x6 and swap your diff centres and axles, Regards Frank.

Would look a little odd with the wheels sitting completely outside the bodywork. Perentie 6x6 are about 5" wider track.

The components will fit my Defender 6X6 because the same components were also fitted to the 4X4 RFSV. (More than that I've already fitted up one set/one wheel station.) but seeing as I want to get new callipers and rotors, was thinking of going ventilated, if they will fit/have correct PCD and offset.

    Hi Ron

Good thought. However it may not be necessary, on Monday afternoon I received a call from someone we know at South Windsor. He had a look at the master parts info for the later Disco 1 with ventilated rotors and callipers which should fit my hubs. They are going to investigate the issue by getting a sample in and they even have an RFSV Salisbury assembly on the workshop floor for testing.

Bugger me - I was going to buy some of these last week - they were showing at $100 reduced from $150. They must really want to shift some old stock. I ended up getting some calipers off a later model that already had the vented disks on them.

Lucky I didn't - I'd be ****ed off something chronic if I had.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
