Yes I noticed that in the newsagent yesterday. Made me wonder what happened to the ECU in July 2002 that made it different from the earlier models.
Anybody see the article in the July issue of Landrover Enthusiast?
A UK outfit can upgrade the TD5 chip instructions for vehicles after (I think) July 2002 build, using a software download from a laptop.

The MINI has a Siemens ECU, like the defender (although I'm not saying it's the same one !), and there is a industry supplying customised maps. A guy in Germany supplies you a map, and you download it from your pc. You just have to buy a interface cable for about $150

yes....and here is the web site........

.
Bruce Davis Performance Landys in Sydney has been doing them for ages.
I drove a Disco over there a few months back, waited, and then drove it back with the upgrade. It was noticeable.
But having said that, I think the LPG fumigation www.dieselgas.com.au would be more cost effective for a bigger power gain, especially if one were considering exhaust and turbo upgrades to go with it. Plus the LPG fumigation can be easily transferred to another vehicle.

are you trying to say that an lpg fumigation system is easier to transfer from one vehicle to another than an ecu is.....?
also.....how noticeable was the the upgrade...?
ie. comparing the before and after.....?

I think it is a software upgrade, not an ECU upgrade so I don't know if it is transferable. Ring Bruce and ask.
Yes, the software upgrade was definitely noticeable but not in the same league as LPG fumigation which gave significantly greater power from before the turbo came in.

Bruce Davis does a remapping with a laptop ... not a replacement ECU on 2002 and later model TD5's. So would be similar to the German dude.
