Simex Tyres and the way they behave on and off road
Picked Camilla up from Hardcore4X4 in Mitcham where is got my New 32/9.5/15 Simex Extreme Treckers.
These work out to be about 33.4" in the old scale and fill the guards on the Defender just nice...
Driving home last night i never thought they would be so noisy and rough as they are. I khew they would have some noise and some vibration, but they are wickered........ Its like being in the rally car again on full muds.
At 60kmh they are their worst in noise, 80kmh they quieten up a bit.
They behave onroad not bad at full running pressure, i'll let you know how they go off road and road behavour at 18psi.
The road was dry and they felt firm, but not like Std tyres. They do float and you just have to drive it like its on ice..... No sudden movements...
Anyhow i bought them and also had fitted Simex Tubes so i can run lower pressure without the greater risk of a tyre poping off. The 9.5's also suit the 7" rim just nice. As the rims are 100mm offset they fill the Guards perfect and only just come outsde the flare by a smidge. This is good as it means the flares should not touch any slopes or culverts when i have the Simex's working the side walls.
Cost all up was about $1400 with tubes and fitted. Not cheap but i got a good trade in on the 35"s so it cost me as a change over about $750
So when i look at the cost of the 15" Rims from HSVRangie and the whole outlay of the new tyres forgetting what i paid for the 35"s i'm out of pocket about $1600. Cheap traction and makes it look tough.
I went the 32" Simex as the 35"s would have been that smidge to big and would have caused me driveline failure at a quicker rate. That i'm not keen on.
I'm going out for a Play on Saturday in Toolangi with the 4WDMonthly lads so i'm hoping no damage and hoping for the chance to pull one of them out....... Payback time for the Landy........
I'll get some better pix when i'm out Sat if all goes well.
I took these 2 this morning at 6.30

Mud pix to come....

great tyre love them . But a pug on the road , get a bit scary at 130kph. My brother has taken them up to 160kph on his 90 . They are really noise at that speed and wander a bit.
But this is all made up for how great they are off the road

Er , just looking at them, what did you expect???? magic carpet ride??
Even BFG muds are edgy, and give you a massage as they stop , and they are about the best.
It is all a compromise, good off road bad on road.
