    7" LED Headlights - what's the go?

A short time ago these cost about 1 billion dollars a pair however now it seems the prices are starting to get a bit more reasonable. Has anyone done all the research and worked out what's good and what's not?

    An example of prices:
    2pcs 7inch 75W 7500LM H L Beam Cree LED Headlight FOR Jeep Hummer Wrangler | eBay
2X LED Truck Lite 40W Cree Headlight FOR Jeep 7inch 1600LM Wrangler JK H4 Hummer | eBay

I'm sure legality comes into it although I notice Narva sell some which are ADR approved, these are the Truck-lite brand which still are rather expensive. Any first hand experiences with any of these LED headlights?

I notice the ad is showing off-road use, they may not be legal in Australia, I can't imagine driving towards a car fitted with these, even on low beam, check with State RTA (whatever) before you purchase, Regards Frank.

AFAIK, they are only legal if they state 'ADR approved'. I imagine this would only be a problem if you need to get a RWC, as I spend most of my life on the highway, and see very many cars with illegal lights and no police action against them.
They are fitted to a lot of new trucks. Personally, I don't like driving with them as my main lights. They are too 'blue', and they reflect badly off road signs. The ones I have experienced also don't seem to throw as far as older style lights, which is probably due to the much smaller reflectors they use.
    They are 'fashionable' though.

You probably need to search for lamps in Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, most of southern and south-east Africa, the UK and New Zealand. At least they will be designed for cars that drive on the left even if they don't meet ADR.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

OT, but on one weekend in 1967, Sweden changed from left to right side of the road. It went seamlessly. Can you imagine what would happen if they tried that here?

Even if a Halogen or Xenon lamp has lots of available voltage and current most of its work is used generating heat and yellowish light. For decent illumination you usually need to have illegally high wattage bulbs.

While HID lamps produce much less heat and produce a white light, ADR require a number of other functions like self levelling and headlamp washers to be legal.

LED are still yet to be as good as HID but are rapidly getting better.

Interestingly on my recently sold Perentie 48-852, the lamps were a dim yellow orange. I swapped them with a pair of reflector units from a civilian 110, with the headlamp buckets and wiring tail off the same 110 and ran a new ground wire back to the firewall on both sides (picking up the original ground post behind the outer mudguard in the process). The change in the brightness and colour was significant.

we shouldn't just let the chance of being caught deter us from doing illegal stuff, particularly when the consequences are causing someone's death or injury.
