Thread: Replacing fuel tank. Worth replacing fuel pump too?

Simple question but no doubt one with many answers. Anyway, here goes...

I'm going to be replacing the fuel tank on my 2003 TD5 D2 in the near future and wondered if it was worth going the whole hog and replacing the fuel pump at the same time while I've got the drawers etc out of the back.

There's nothing wrong with the current fuel pump (that I know of) but, it is now over 12 years old and pulling out the drawers is a PITA and I don't want to have to do it again if I can avoid it.

Hi Sam,
If you think that removing the drawers is a P.I.T.A., let me tell you, that pales into insignificance compared with having a fuel pump failure.
At the very least, I would suggest having the fuel pump checked or reconditioned (new electric motor?) when the old tank is taken out.
Mine failed after less than 12 years, and only about 180,000 km.
