Kangeroo Jack Vs. Defender Jack

Hi all,

can anyone tell me if its worth sticking with the Standard Defender jack or going for a Kangeroo Jack. I've got both, but the Kanger is bigger, heavier and requires a few mods for jacking points.

Any thoughts?

Cheers
Jimmy

I've had a County and 2 Defenders. The jack would have to be the most useless piece of crap to come out of Sollihul.

My current one remains in pristine unused condition. Not because I've not removed a wheel, but because I swiped the bottle jack from the previous Disco ..

Stick with the highlift, that's what I take scrub with me.

Hi, the high lift/kangaroo jack is the best off road, but for "normal" use you can't beat a bottle jack under the diff for ease and speed of use.

I carry both.

Hi Jimmy
To convert your Kangaroo jack to suit Defenders there is a fitting that goes on the Kangaroo jack that makes it fit into the Defender liftpoints. In my Series 3, I had a trolley jack and a camping bbq plate to run it on,worked really well.

I spent an hour to day swapping my tyres over. 6 changes as I only have the bottle jack so take front tyre off put spare on. take back tyre off put front on. Back to front and remove spare to fit rear on. Now I would love to know how long with a high lift jack.

Trouble is I have a rock/dirt drive, No concrete. As it is I had to dig a few rocks out to get a flat spot for the jack. Truck won't fit in the shed.

Even with a trolley jack there isn't going to be fewer lifts if you're rotating the tyres.

Will make it easier, though.

Cheers,

I have always used my trolley jack at home (it's too bigg & heavy to cart around).
It's normally used on concrete but I have used it on dirt & gravel.

Wife had a flat tyre in her 80 RR the other day.
Went to use the supplied bottle jack. Wouldn't work.
She got help, and managed to get the tyre changed.

So I thought I better teach her how to use the bottle jack.
What a piece of crap. Handle turns, & sometimes there is internal movement.
So I checked mine in the 79 RR.
It's pretty well just as useless.

Trolley jacks to be carried in both vehicles from now on!
(Big W have 1700kg with 380mm lift for under $50)

Get the highlift anyway, they come in handy for all sorts of stuff, spent today straining fence wire with mine. The attachment to fit the Defender is available from OL at $60, just make sure it fits the jaw of your brand jack. I see in overlander mag you can now get a pipe bending attachment for the highlift as well.
