Pump for oil containers.

Does anyone know if there's a pump made to fit on 4.5ltr oil containers. To be useful it must pump gearbox oil as well. Diff. oil would be a bit too thick for a handpump I think.
I've looked in Supacrap etc. but can't seem to locate one except for a cylinder type where you suck it up through a thin hose and pump it out again. I get more oil on the floor than in the box with one of them.
Help.

I used to use a syringe (large) for doing gearbox & diffs.
That's until I found a hand pump that fits oil containers.

So answering your question - yes they exist.
I bought mine probably 15 years ago!
It comes with various length input tubes to suit different size containers.
To operate, you repeatedly press down on a plunger.
And yes it pumps diff oil.

I read somehere on a forum (not sure which one) that a guy made his own air operated pump.
He drilled 2 holes in an old lid.
One was for the hose - which goes to the bottom of the conatiner and is long enough to reach whatever you are filling..
The other was for a tubeless tyre valve.
You then apply air pressure, and oil comes out.

Oil pump

Thanks LandyAndy and Ralph RR. I'll be having words with the people at Welshpool soon and if feeling creative may fiddle around with your idea Ralph.
Thanks again.

look and ask around at auto pro or supercrap......or repco....they are available in almost all of these types of stores....but they are usually well hidden.....

they should all sell the same pump but it will vary in price from $15 to $25

The only problem I see with the air pump, is controlling it.
Any pressure will force the oil out.
So stopping the flow when your diff/swivel/whatever is full will be tricky.

Becareful with the air pump idea, it is great in principal. I recently tried this type of idea. With little pressure the plastic oil container failed and split covering me and the driveway with 4 litres of gearbox oil, not a nice experience. I would not use anything much more than a bike pump for this type of method unless you have a pressure vessel and a relief valve. I am awaiting a reply fron the guy's at filters plus in Welshpool. Have also enquired as to the availability of aftermarket filters for TD5 engines.

When I had an LT95 , I used an out of date gas cylinder 4KG??.
Drill a hole in the bottom, insert a right angle fitting, put on reinforced hose, fit a tap on the end, with maybe 80MM of hose on the end of the tap.

Drill a hole in the top for a shrader valve. I drilled the hole in the original "Primus" top plug.
Unscrew the top to fill with oil ( only fill to 3/4), refit the top and put maybe 30PSI in.
Open tap and voila.
Still got it but not worthwhile to use on auto with Borg Warner as ATF is easy to squeeze from the container.

why not just use one of those garden pressure sprayers/weedkillers available everywhere these days.....

the pump type with the on/off nozzle.....if you take the spray nozzle off it will allow the thicker fluid to flow through.....

Oil container pump.

I've just been on to Filters Plus in Welshpool and they do a pump called a Tom Thumb for 5 ltr. containers. Cost is $20.00.
They also supply Baldwin filters which are apparently a very good American made filter which are OK to use instead of OME stuff.

I would use my weed killer spray but that buggers it for using around the garden.
Thanks for the responses.
Alan H.
