Coils and Articulation. It does make a BIG difference.

I was trying to get the Defender up an inch or so and thought id play around with some different combinations of Coils.

It had Std coils on it and the colours were yellow stripes front and yellow/red on the rear.

These photo's were with the Std coils and the articulation was great. i could not drive any further and the rears were still on the ground.

Then i played around and stuck 130 rear coils in the rear, it raised it 15mm
I then stuck Disco rears in the front and it raised the front 40mm
Perfect as the front is now 10mm lower than the rear.
BUT articulation has been reduced quite a bit.

So i'm off to talk to the lads and Rangie spare to get a softer front but longer. i'm trying to keep the height, but keep the articulation i had.

    Front coils as current.

Ohh New snorkle today, Fits nice. Cost $345

Steve, you should be FAR to busy for all this! lol
Amazing the difference tho. Could be worth you having a word with Browns Springs in Thomastown too. They are hapy to supply direct and seem to know their stuff with LR. Springs are $70-$90 each I think and you just tell them what you're after and they'll make it for you.

Brown Springs do make the springs for Range Spares but you can get them custom made at Brown's for a fraction of the cost.

Just tel them the rate and height you want.....thats it. And if they are not quite right then they will reset them free of charge.
    I paid $120 cash for a pair.

You are spot on. I am still looking to drop our defender about an inch at the rear (unloaded) to fit it in the garage ops: ops: . Anyway, yesterday we dropped a rear spring out to check the free length, so we jacked the car up. To get the spring out, we then had to jack the axle to release the shocky so we could get the axle down far enough to get the spring out.

We were set to try some rangie springs, but then we found the spring diameter is different so we had to put the lot back together again having achieved nothing ops: ops: Next desert trip I'm going to have to carry my own spares, not sting of the other rangies I will also have to carry a front and a rear spring.
