Gary... I agree that it would be nice to have a lower 1st in the Freebee (before coming out here I managed to burn out the clutch and flywheel in mine!). However, with the business hat on, the money to put it on (even if it's only a few cents) would be wasted on the mass market that they're after.

As far as bash plates go, jump onto the Freebee e-group again and ask the guys there. IIRC, there was someone there that was producing plates that you could swap with the plastic thingy. See if they're willing to send over a copy of the drawings?

    Mark.

I have been in contact with those guys for a while. I was intending to just use the plastic undertray as a template for some heavy allloy plate and get some brackets welded to the heavy aluminium frame. Simon Shirely who I think you know from the Freelander club sent me some mods that will give me a 2" lift without changing springs etc - it is just longer higher tensile bolts, nuts and washers for the top of the suspension - acts like a spacer and apparently the increased angle for the CVs is not a problem. Harvey G (who I also think you know) has an ECU mod that gives a lot more torque at 2000rpm when the turbo comes on line so that will help offset the lack of a low gear - not sure of the cost though.

So how is the trip going - I suppose you are back on the east coast by now.

    Cheers

Gazz - I've heard it can be a problem actually I would research before going thru with it. Some of the guys in the US have lifted theirs and have had issues.

I have researched it and 3" is the max and supposedly 2" is OK - but I am always open others experience - I know that the front CVs on a Suby will pack it in within a few Kms with a spring lift hence they only have body lifts that make little change to the front drive geometry.

What have you heard - I am assuming it is problems with the front and maybe rear CVs

If anything Gaz, i reckon you wallet will be the limiting factor. I am sure with some engineering help raising the freebie and not having a problem with the CV's would be possible, but the cost might be an issue. Matt

Those racing FLanders look the goods.
No Landy Bias, but compared to all the competitors the Freelander is up against the Baby Landy at least looks like it could do some off-roading.
Ive had a sit in one at a car show, they are a bit Tardis like, look small but once inside they seem much bigger.A turbo diesel with a lift kit and real tyres should go quite well off road.

These people do chips for most Landys but they are a bit expensive at around $1800

I have been racing all weekend with my Brothers TD4 and his wifes 1.8 Freelander
The 1.8 goes like a bat out of hell. And i was co driving for her most of the weekend . After one round a chap in a bowler came up to us and told us he was catching us on the really ruff stuff but said to his co driver that they could take the freelander on the straight but when he got the the straight they both siad where the bloody hell has it gone , as the Freelander shot away from them.
I joked with him and said no bad is it for a 1.8. He found the funny side of it as he had a 5.2 Bowler

And hers was the only car to see a spanner all weekend

He is a Vid of my brothers one
    Vid of Racing freebie

Pics of the 1.8 of Vickys . It is a R reg ( but with a new front end on)
