    Tyre bead sealing

    Hi Guys
You are out off-roading with your tyres aired down and you peel 2 tyre off the beads and only have 1 spare. You are in the poo because your ordinary compressor cant supply enough air to reset the beads.
Here is a tip that should get them beads set with your normal compressor whilst on the vehicle!!!!!!
    Its so simple its stupid!!!
    1.Jack the offending wheel up
2.Get your 50mm ratchet tiedown strap that you are going to go out and buy for such a situation.
3.Fit the ratchet strap around the centre of the tyre tread and ratchet up fairly tight.
    4.Pump her up.
Apparentley its a lifesaver, works a treat, not many people would even think about it.

    Here's another.

Apparently you pour a small amount of ether around the bead and then ignite it. (What about petrol?)

The resultant explosion blows the tyre out onto the bead.

    Who's gunna try it?

Or you can use the method shown on page 9 of this document:

Well... Andy's idea I've used before. It also works on tyres that have very strong side walls and refuse to pop onto the rim (when running tubeless).

The other one is a favorite of the Icelandics as they're always popping tyres off the rims....

We've had to do this about a dozen times or more with the LROC tuff Trips. The Simexes just keep peeling off 7" rims. No problems when swapped to an 8", so it must be a bead angle.

Anyway, you don't need the ratchset strap. We don't even trake the wheel off. Just jack it up till its clear of the ground, wash any crap out of the bead area, grab a couple of onlookers, and just pull the tyre outwards. It'll seal within a few minutes, after that stand back & wait till the bead pops on.

You'll hear easily enough if its leaking, you soon get to know the hollow sound of air going in as it should.

Only works obviously if the back bead is intact, which it usually is.
