    Question 300 TDi Timing

    Hi again folks. Simple question. With the engine at TDC with the cam timing mark and FIP pin aligned, which cylinder is firing? 1 or 4? I would normally assume 1, but it is a LR. I know the valves would tell me, but the head is off, and I don't trust my eyes enough to go by the followers.

    A bit late but i'm not aware of any auto engine that TDC is not measured from number 1 cylinder.

    Neither am I, but given any in-line, even number of cylinders >2 engine will have two pistons at TDC simultaneously, and I have been a long time out of the spannering business, and I'm often pretty unlucky in my assumptions I thought I'd check.
