Rebuilt 200 TDI Runs to Full Revs on Startup

    Hi Guys,

I'm actaully posting this on behalf of a mate who has a SI Disco with the 200TDI engine. The block had a cracked water jacket and he's just finished building one good engine out of two to replace the block.

When he started it first time, after it primed, the engine started well but ran to full revs and stayed there until he shut it down (quickly).

Surely this has to be a problem with the injector pump?

Everything moves freely around the throttle connection, he's had the top cover off and inspected and cleaned the diaphragm it but not adjusted anything.

Is there a simple fix to this or does it require taking the pump to a diesel specialist perhaps?

Can't find any similar issues on the forum but please feel free to point me at the thread if there is one.

Many thanks for your help in advance.

    Cheers,
    Graham

the throttle arm may not be indexed on the injector pump properly or if its been left sitting with the arm pulled all the way to full demand the internal linkages might be stuck at a high speed position.

turn the engine over by hand slowly and belt the side of the injector pump with a rubber mallet a few times (dont hit any linkages) and see if that frees it up..

    fair warning.

If that frees it up but the original cause was internal damage or contamination inside the injector pump it might just stick again at the full speed position when you least want it to.
