    Turbo Rev range TD5

What is the rev range for the turbo on the TD5, when should it be pulling hardest and when does it peak and then fade ? Mine is running out of puff at around 2,700 and is gutless by 2,800 ?

I wish it would change up, but 'hangs around' till I get to 3,000 or just over when it finally changes gear. Not sure if it is just my car or a more general way the engine works ?

3000 is a general change point if you are holding the throttle flat. As to running out of "puff" 2 main things, clean the MAF and change the turbo modulater, they do get old. And check the filter.

    Full throttle change 1to 2 is 4200rpm.
Similar 2To 3 and so on.

4200? Hmm, mine changes a lot earlier than than that for some reason. Maybe the Ashcroft converter has altered things? Will have to check later.

Don't think my car has ever been near 4,200 rpm, never goes above 3,200. I had a disco owner drive mine a while back and they thought it wasn't right at the higher revs, I have since had a re-map, but it hasn't changed the power at all once I get to 2,700, is struggles from there.

Possibly a fuel pump was mentioned, but other than that it goes fine. For example, when in 4th on the freeway, it goes very well from 80 - 120, ie 2,000 rpm onwards towards 3,000.

What is the best way to find our more, I was thinking get a seasoned Disco owner to take it for a spin ?

Does it rev freely sitting still in neutral?

I have cleaned the MAF and MAP with contact fluid and yes was happening before the re-map. Held it in second and it got to 4,0000 rpm, but did seem to pause still around the 3,000 mark and seemed better when got past this. In usual auto mode I can never get past 3,200.

What filter should I be checking, the fuel ? I also removed the air filter for a few km( new one on order for imminent service) as is dirty, but didn't seem to make any difference. It is back in now

Will also free rev tomorrow and report back, was hoping the re-map was going to cure this but alas. Not sure what else to do ?

    Auto change up

I fitted an improved Torque Converter from Torque Converter Technologies in Springvale Victoria, it locks the clutch (not change the gear) at around 2200 RPM putting you back into the torque range of the motor.

It made the car much nicer to drive and if you have had the performance enhanced it also has a beefier lock up clutch. It's less likely to fail when towing etc.

They looked after me very well when I bought mine, I couldn't recommend them more.

    Regards

    Mike
