Thread: Fuel System servicing- TDi

Hi all, i am debating whether or not to take the Disco up to the injection specialists in Katoomba over the holidays and get them to do a full service, clean and tune up. My question is, are they going to do anything i cant do at home? Matt

The main things you can't do are get it on a rolling road for tuning and cleaning up the injectors if there are problems. That said, when you start fiddling with the fuel pump, even the smallest of changes could cause problems. Unless you have an EGT gauge fitted, you could be causing more problems than you're solving.

I may well have missed a thread here but what's the problem?

I've got some pretty competant mates when it come to Land Rovers and none will fiddle with pump or injectors.

I am also having some issues as you are, even Graeme Cooper told me to take it to a diesel expert service for adjustment after his dyno couldn't isolate the problem.

I've opted to take a trip to the ACT to Cooma Diesel Service as I've not heard any thing bad about them, some of the better known repairers I have had people relay various problems with some of these over the years.

I need to recover about 7kw and 2 litres/hundred, I'm getting close to 13 per 100, but I am near 3 tons, but I know not running the way it used to. I won't take of roof rack, great wood carrier when camping into camped out areas, I have taken off spare tyre on roof to save a bit (put back for big trips only). I can still lighten a little but not worth it I think.

Thanks Mark and Bryce, i think i am just going to get the experts to have a look at it.

Bryce, instead of doing that long trip i have nothing but praise for Performa Fuel in Katoomba, they do general flushes and total overhauls, i am going to give them a go next week. Matt
