Try a new set of brushes in and strong power wire to the motor.

As we are talking wiper motors on a County, what about the rear wiper?

It is so gutless, it sometimes won't start up. The blades stick the to screen so I have to give it a squirt with the washer, get out, lift the blades off then it will start. I've pulled the motor out to check it and lubed the shaft and bearings as best I can't remember if it is possible to access the brushes.

Add to that the slow speed! I can see why some people don't even use them anymore.

I would have thought you should be able to get at the motor brushes probably at worst a fiddle. So long as the commutator is not pitted and burnt, new brushes is all it would need.

Just sitting here thinking. Have you measured the switch ? If the motor is stalling as easily, could it be the switch has dirty contacts limiting power to the motor?

I pulled the motor apart but I don't think I could get to the brushes. I think the end plate was crimped on. I'd have to pull it all out again to check. I pulled it apart because it was seized and had to be freed up.

Power is Ok to the motor. I checked that.

If I can pull the motor apart, I can skim the commutator in my lathe (I've done that before on starter motors, etc.)

I'll have another look at it when I fit the new rear door I just bought off GreyLandy. (I've gotta get a window for it. The later Defenders have a window that's rounded at the borrom corners and held in with a rubber strip. I hadn't realised that.)
