Side steps for a Defender 110
GDay gents,
The Defender goes in for new rubber and news suspension today which means I have to finally give into my wife and get sidesteps.
It seems the 50mm lift will be too much for her little legs.
I'm stuggling to find some good after market brands. I definitely don't want the genuine steel versions.
I'm in Brissy - any ideas?

This is one of those all or nothing issues.
Anything thats got good clearance won't be easy to use - worse if you've got to slide in over the steps.
Any steps that are easy to use are going to stick out and/or hang down a bit.
Why have you ruled out the factory ones? They're pretty easy to take on and off as necessary. I've been toying with the idea of adapting studs & wing nuts to make it even easier.
Regards
Max P

[b]why not just get her the spring fold up step for her side door only....
drops down lower than a side step.....
and folds up neatly to give off road clearance....

I have the factory ones, and they are easy to use, and don't stick down below the chassis rails. If you do hit something, if you haven't done the bolts up too tight they fold out of the way 8O
Mine are rusting, but LR is getting new ones in for me so we'll see how they go.
PM me if you want to see them fitted.

Zook,
I've actually been down that path - tried to pair it with some fishnets but she slapped me - I dunno why :?
THe reason I don't want the steels is because of the mount of beach work I do. The car goes beach/bush about 10/1. I'm worried about the rusting problem.
I guess I don't want something too obtrusive - just enough to help the little lady get in.
Seems harder than I thought

I think scorpion off road make alloy bullbars. Maybe they might make you up a custom alloy set if you don't mind flashing the cash?

There's always sandblasting and galvanising. It'll add to the cost, but sort out most of the rust issues.
And getting it done means you can make sure it's a good job.
Cheers
Simon.
