Remember also that widths are measured through the bag of the tyre, not the treadface. So a taller and wider tyre may actually still have the same treadface width in some cases.
Sorry!
I know this is another thread regards tyres, however when searching the good oil, all the threads I wanted to read didn't link. They just spoilt me with the metadata and html code!
Anyhoo, I am buying new shoes for the D2. Currently I am running 245/70 R16 however I want to go taller, but not necessarily wider.
What's the most common / recommended taller size?
I kinda like the sound of 255/75 but they seem to be hard to get in 16in.
265 seem common. Whats the vibe?
Remember, I have searched the search out of the good oil....some of the links, (prob the ones I need) are broken.... so not just being lazy!
Cheers
Ralph

Funny he has ignored the size I have which is pretty common, and that is 255.70x16. which AFAIK is standard on some Jeeps, and now Navara Triton and Ford.
I had to fit them even though I wanted 245.75x16 as the rims that I bought are 8 inches wide RR38A . Having said that they are great and have a high load rating in BFG AT KO. They have been around OZ with no chipping or any punctures.
You can also shorten your steering stops if you originally had 18 inch wheels with no rubbing on lock, and they Juuust fit on the wheel carrier.

I just looked on ebay and there are plenty of cheap tyres there BFG muds for under $1000, and Kumho ATs for for $189 each.

I ran 235/85's on the D2 as these where as tall as I could go without big modifications.
I had a spring lift of @38mm IRRC but it's not needed to fit these tyre provided you don't keep the front bumper(read, needs a bull bar).
Found this link I used at the time for you too,,

Ree The Good Oil,
If you can PM me the threads I'll have a look at them.
Going through all the threads is on the list of things to do.

I ran 255/70 Coopers until on delaminated
I then ran 245/75 Goodyear Silent Armour (Now Adeventurer).
Ran 235/85's on the 100.

In Qld 245/75/16 are the biggest you can legally go and are a great size for a D2 even unlifted.
Cheers
I like the sound of 245/75. Theory says they are 30.5 inch so 1 inch more than I currently running.
I'll search around for some.
Cheers everybody!
Ralph
You could also so 265/70/16. More choice in 245/75 though especially in LT.
Cheers
I had 235 85 but went back to 245 70 on my D2. Lost too much power on the hills around here and useless for towing. Just something to be mindful of.
