Buy used Defender

    G'DAY

    I am thinking to buy Defender 110 or 130 TD5 to trade-in my Disco (93) TDi200...

What do I have look out for TD5 and any problem?

    Thank for advice.

Take it from me - look out for everything! I made the mistake of not doing so and it cost me over $7,000 in fixes. I think the biggest thing to do is get a rally good mechanic to check it out - and I mean one that knows TD5s.

Look carefully at issues to do with coolant leak as the damage this can cause is expensive. I guess there will be some more mechanically qualified members of this forum that will give some very specific info for you but just be careful you dont get a lemon. Good ones are great, lemons can become gret but the money you can spend getting them to that state is frightening!

How old are you looking at?

If you're looking at less than 4 years old then listening to Septimus is interesting. When we were looking for a Defender most people selling second hand wanted pretty much new price. Don't even think about it. Look at the redbook price and make that a max. If you pay these guys the rediculous price they ask you've got nothing left for fixes should the car need it. It could end up costing more than buying a new one

What's more... they usually don't sell them. I first emailed a guy (still on carsales) nearly a year ago when he was asking $45500, just $500 less than we paid for our new defender    He seems like a nice enough guy, but he's still trying to sell his car nearly 12 months after he started. He could have had this money then.
