Defender td5, hand throttle

G'day all.

Has anyone a solution for a hand throttle for a 'fly by wire' td5?
I've asked a dealer (no idea) and Graeme Cooper who suggested their cruise control (expensive).

I have a winch etc. but the main issue is the shower heat exchanger which requires a few revs to keep the water warm. Tried a brick but found it awkward and not too elegant (but simple!).

I am surprised that I cannot locate anything on the web.

Any ideas will be most appreciated
all the best

I fitted an aftermarket cruise in the TDi300 Disco myself. I also had a shower unit fitted. The advantage was that you could start the car holding some part of the cruise control switch, (forget which bit), then you could tap up and down on the cruise speed settings to increase the revs to wherever you wanted. When you switched off the engine it went back to normal. I purchased a "Liteon" brand unit for around $400 from Auto barn.

Trev.

Shouldn't be hard to make. Jus check the details in the RAVE documentation and make a unit that emulates the resistance changes of the throttle. Probably have to have a switch that disconnects one and connects the other. It may be possible, depending on the circuit, to put some resistance in parallel to that in the foot throttle and not have to disconnect the hand one.

I have an extremely high tech, but surprisingly inexpensive jobbie.

A length of 19x19 pine with a slot cut in one end to accommodate the accelerator pedal rod.

With a tad of trial and error the correct length is easily achievable.

Wedge it up under the aircon coweling and you can set it for your desired rev range .. variable from 1500 - ??

Mine is a "Grande" model .. I sanded off the sharp corners... Fits neatly in the little bag with the winch controller and gloves.

[b]the easiest would be to get a second accelerator switch (the rheostat under the actual pedal) and wire it up as sugested above....

G'day all,
Thank you for all the ideas.

I will dig out the electrical manual and see what it has to offer. I think this model (MY02) has 3 'pots', two of which work in opposition so the ecu measured voltage across the sum of both is the same and therefore is a check on the signal being valid. I would need to be able to replicate this and isolate the ones at the pedal.

Does anyone have any ideas where I can obtain a Rave cd for my model (MY02 130 dual cab td5, Oct 2003 delivery), I have a set of Landrover paper manuals but they sometimes lack detail.

The elegant solution with the semi-adjustable ecologically friendly wooden rod may be the way to go.

I thought the TDi models used mechanical pump fuel injection with traditional cable throttle linkage and therefore could use a traditional choke cable type of hand throttle. (I think landrover has a part for this).

Thankyou again, and I'll post anything further I discover.
