    Update on injector pump

Having completed a 3500klms round trip to Queensland including 3.5 hour 30klms upto the Kroombit Tops from the Biloela end and not a single drip of diesel from the injector pump head 0 ring. Thanks to all the advise received through this forum.
While replacing the O ring we noticed fine metal flakes in the fuel cut off
switch hole !!! We will now plan a rebuild of the pump by a diesel server. Will my rebuild kit plus a new O ring be sufficient for a rebuild? Or will I need to
    purchase more parts?

    Hi Peter,
Metal flakes would seem to indicate that the hard-facing is starting to fail on some of the pump internals. So, I'd guess you will be up for more than just seals, bushes and gaskets. But your pump re-builder should be able to supply everything required.
By the way, "diesel server"? Did you manage to find a servo where someone still comes out to your car to fill it up?? Or did you mean one of those blokes that work in womens' dress shops - a "diesel fit-her"??

Thanks for that. Yes the pump rebuilder estimate is some where between $1800 and $2500 plus labor to remove and replace the pump so I am looking at an ex change from another supplier for $660 and yes do the job myself!!!
I haven't been able to find the special tool to hold the timing pulley is there a bush mechanics plan B ?

Plan B would be to remove the timing cover and install a new timing belt while your in there.

The way I would go about it is...

find a cheap second hand pump, send it in with your rebuild kit to be rebuilt and tuned.

Get a timing belt and kit.

strip down the front of the engine, pull the gear off of the front of the pump send it in to be fitted to your pump, then remove your pump.

install the newly rebuilt pump, install the timing belt and put your second hand pump up for grabs.

    Exchange Ijector pump

Having decided to purchase the exchange pump at $660 I will not be replacing the timming belt as it is not all that old so will have to hold the timming pulley n place. Will plan to make the part on the day unless some one has the tool or a homemade one that I could borrow.
