Steering wheel removal

Since my engine conversion the horns have not worked, so I rewired them to work from a switch on the dash, now that I have the time to try and fix the problem I found that I couldn't undo the steering wheel nut as it had been really screwed down, finally after a lot of trouble loosened the nut, question is that I cannot free the steering wheel, so I need some advice from those that may have had this problem (have looked at my rave cd's series 1 and 2), have power either side of the conection under the steering wheel but not into the whel centre.

[b]isnt the horn on the indicator stalk like all other land rovers....?
anyhow.....the correct way to remove the wheel is using a puller......
the greek way is.......
1...loosen the nut but do not remove it fully(it should be on by three or four threads)
2...with your foot on the brake....grab the wheel on the left and right hand sides and pull it straight up off the shaft while wiggling it left to right(the wheel i mean) gently till it comes loose....
when it comes up with a bang you will understand why the nut ws left on....
if you dont leave the nut on you will end up wearing the steering wheel like princess diana....( i bet you thought that was a halo!)
and finally a tip......before you remove the wheel now that it is loose....
put it in the straight ahead position and then remove the nut and wheel....
so you wont have to stuff around trying to align the wheel.....
good luck....

Thanks for the quick reply Tony but have tried your method with no result perhaps its time to get hold of a puller.

 [b]it wont pop straight off.....
it once took me the better part of a minute to remove once.....
you just gotta keep at it.....
and if you do use a puller......still leave the nut on to stop it popping right off.....
whatever you do ......DO NOT hit the shaft with a hammer as you can collapse the column.....

Position yourself with your knee's pushing upwards on the wheel unscrew the bolt as previously mentioned but with the nut just proud of the shaft, now with one hand use a hammer and tap on the nut while pulling/ pushing and it should come loose - did this 4 weeks ago on my rangie!
