Modified Land Rovers

Hi there all

For those who dont know me - I have been collecting vintage Land Rover Fire Engines for some time now - whom now wants to tackle a new project "toy".

I was inspired after a 4x4 trip in a coil sprung TD5 (2004 Discovery) around the Hawker area last weekend (flinders Rangers SA) - I was amazed with the abilities of this Vehicle (unbelieveable) - granted it was fitted with heaps of electronic controled gizmos but still a great vehcile.

I want to build a registrable coil sprung vehcile on a old series II - III chassis - initally it will be the old landy motor but as money becomes available hopefully a TDI engine & drive train.

Can any body put me onto some one has already tackled a simular project (especially the leaf to coil springs conversion) and the implications to get the machine registered etc.

Many thanks and looking forwards to the input.

Wayne

Stephen

Do you have another short cut - as I am unable to find what your talking about.

I have registered to be a user of the site but still unable to find it.

In saying that it might be right in front of my face.

Many Thanks

It would be a lot easier (but less of a challenge  ) to use an old Rangie chassis and running gear then fit the Series body, called a hybrid, which has been done plenty of times before.

The DVD "A 4wd is Born" goes through the whole procedure.

Modified Land Rovers

Sorry Guys

I have now managed to open the link to the other site (Must have been a glitch in the system) yes its a very impressive vehicle indeed.

I will be following its build up.

There was a mention of the Range Rover conversion - does any one know of any is Australia whom I may be able to chat to - like to do my homework on projects before starting.

many thanks for all the input.

Biggest problem is getting the welding certified.

All you *need* (a loose term) is the 2 front bulhead/firewall outriggers.
You will need a certified welder who has a chassis ticket to be able to get it engineered.

The rest ie - rear crossmember, rear bulkhead outriggers fuel tank mounts can easily be fabricated

I'm currently building one. Ive got most of it sussed, now its all time and $$$ which being a full time student can be hard to come by ops:

But holiday time is nice

Should start to see a bit of progress over December / January

Not many in Aus, or none that have websites etc - its all who you know.
Best to have a search of some of the UK forums and ask.

If you find anything good - let us know.

Dave.
