    Blown Head....apparently

    Evening all

My 300tdi cab chassis appears to have done the head (RAC diagnosis on the roadside). At 370,000km I'm thinking that I'd be wise to put my $ into a replacement engine as the ute is for work. Does anyone in Perth or WA for that matter ( might even go interstate if I have to) have a 300tdi long for sale? I'm dreading having to hire another model 4WD while this is fixed, but I refuse to buy and drive anything else. Anyone, please, does someone have or know someone who has a 300tdi to sell asap??

    Regards

    Martin

    Martin.
Im told by a local mate they are very cheap to rebuild,ie new pistons rings bearings head valves etc.
Get onto a couple of the well known Perth specialists and see how much to rebuild it.
    GOODLUCK

Would a replacement head from Turners help? They also do short engines, and I think delivery is fairly swift. Others will know for sure.

Tdi bottom is pretty robust so may get away with rings and bearings etc and a new head , if the head isnt cracked a shave and valve regrind will revive it.

I agree with Andy, go down the rebuild path. Turners are a good option for a new head, but it is insanely expensive to ship a whole engine.

I'm contemplating that, but I need a quickish turnaround to keep my employees in the field. I'm a little concerned though about the kms on it. Do you think it's worth rebuilding with 370k on it?

I'll look in to that Don. Will get the ute in to the workshop and we'll see what we see....

yep, the bottom half of the engine can go 500K before it must be overhauled.

if you get just a little lucky at 370K a timing belt, rings and bearings with a new head and gaskets and you'll make 500K easy.

I'd replace the head and worry about the rest in another 130K. Pat
