Just had a 9/08 build tdv6 timing belt job in and it has the upgraded oil pump already. Thank goodness...😕

    Pat,

The issue is down to the cast aluminium casing of the oil pump housing snapping where the timing belt tensioner bolts through. Has happened more often after the belts have been changed, with late 2006-early 2008 engines being more vulnerable than others.
Comparison picture from when I did mine (old style versus new style):

You can see at the top left of the new one, that there is more cast webbing around the tensioner mount, compared to the old grotty one.

And of course, once the tensioner is no longer tensing, you need a new engine.

    Hope that explains it!
