    Sparewheel cover modifications

Bought an inexpensive spare wheel cover for the bonnet mounted spare on the LR 88. As it did not have holes in it I got the "technical department" i.e the wife to make the necessary modifications.
The middle photo shows the kit used. The last photo shows the holes with the eyelets.

Not clear why you need the holes, perhaps some explanation?

The air gets pushed under the bonnet mounted spare wheel and into the cover making it mushroom upwards restricting visibility. Sadly after a test drive I found that two holes were not enough to stop this so I got the technical department to add another two. I'd say that the wheel cover was made to cover a 7.50x16 so there is a lot of slack when fitted on a 205x16.

i tried this on my defer.......same outcome

as you now have two hole, run a strap/rope though the holes and than through the wheel studs....this way you will be able to pull the cover toward the center of wheel stopping it from ballooning

I suspected this might be the intention. I plan to tackle the problem a different way - a disc of some rigid material (haven't decided what) the diameter of the widest bulge of the tyre, glued with contact cement to the inside of the cover.

Coreflute? Easy to cut, rigid enough, flexible enough, and waterproof.

Coreflute? I am not familiar with the name, but I suspect it is the plastic material similar to corrugated cardboard?

My current thoughts were galvanised sheet steel, since I have some! But that may be better if I can get a small quantity.

That's the stuff. It's cheap, but if there's a transport company near you I'd bet they'd have a scrap piece about the place. I reckon two pieces, diagonal to each other, would be perfect. The stuff is so light, compared to gal sheet.
