I made my Disco2 CDL acuator

    Hi Guys
Firstly,SORRY NO PICS ops: ops: ops: ops: ops:
I made my own CDL acuator using socket set extensions and unijoints. It was pretty easy and works just fine,if a tad tight to get into lock, mainly because my in cab lever is a bit too small.
Another bonus, engage it with the ignition off and the traction control/ABS is disabled,as shown by warning lights on the dash, engage with ignition on and it retains Traction Control/ABS 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

    Hi
This has been covered in previous posts by others, some do it some dont. The website I got the idea from also tells which wires to put a switch in to do it via a switch.
With mine, lock the CDL with ignition off, start, when the dashlights go out the CDL,TCand ABS lights stay on.Unlock it,the CDL light goes out the others stay on,restart they go out.Put the CDL in with the ignition on,all remains normal. From what Ive read in others posts this only happens in the eailier models,Im sure others can give more info.

    Hi AussieDisco
Yes its the disco2 site, here is the link,Ive never had trouble with the site being down, but they have been upgrading.
    www.didco2.com/howto/offroader/gregcdl/
Its hit and miss as to the lenghts of the extensions,my bracket onto the transfercase was a tad longer ,the second extension was about 4 inches then the last about 7 inches.
I found an old falcon alternator bracket, cut 4 inches or so off the end, and bent a 90deg angle into it.The slot in the bracket it 10mm and it bolts perfectley onto the transfercase acuator.
For the cab lever, they use a gearknob,I didnt and wouldnt as you need a fair twist to engage/disengage.I got a brass tap lever(its about 2 inches long) and ground a bolt to suit the slot in the lever, then weled the bolt to the acuator shaft.A tip,you will need 2 nuts on the thread to adjust the height of the lever and create a locknut, before grinding the bolt to suit the lever wind the first nut all the way down the thread, once you have finished grinding this nut will clean/repair the threads when its un-done.
I used my Disco for the 1st time yesterday with the now active CDL,in deep mud there is a huge difference, the drive doesnt alternate from front to rear as the traction control does its stuff. Its a pit of a pain remembering to unlock the CDL before stopping the engine,as when re-starting the traction control/ABS is disabled.Disabling the Traction Control would be perfect on the beach,on the same sit there are instructions on how to wire up the electronics to a switch to save re-starting etc.
