G'day dan, where are you based?

Dunno about the electrics, however the Timing Belt change isn't so serious as long as you are prepared and have a good half-day or more to devote to it.

Try doing a search through the archives for what people have said on 300tdi timing belt changes, there's plenty of info there.

You can also get the RAVE CD's from the Emporium on the site (only about $15 I think) and they should cover all the bits and bobs for your model so you know what it is you're in for.

Re the rear door locks - very common, the springs get lazy but these can be replaced with newer heavier springs. These springs are available from Ritters in Melbourne, ask for Craig in Spares.

A good spanner juggler can do the cam belt it a couple of hours - as your is about the age of the cam belt issues I would replace all the pulleys for the later spec ones - complete kit is about $300 for an after market one.

Intermittant rear window operation is almost certainly faulty window control circuit board, it lives in a box at the back of the glovebox, mine had the same problem, eventually they stopped working totally ( when open ops: )

The problem was a dry soldered joint on the cicuit board, fixed it myself with a soldering iron, the windows work perfectly now ( 2 yrs later )

I I got the info to fix it from the tech section of Discoweb, they had photos etc very easy to follow if you are handy with the tools.

G'day Dan, I too live on beautiful Jervis Bay. I have a '95 V8. If you need help I'm pretty handy with a spanner, and have a pretty good tool kit.
I'm a bit unsure with electrics, but mechanicals are a piece of cake. I also have a Rave c.d. for any info you may require.

Very timely query.
I've got the same problem with my rear windows ('97 D1).
They were temperamental for a while, but have now stopped working completely (fortunately in the fully up position).

Ok guys... This is a common problem and although a little time consuming is a very easy fix.

The windows are working better in the warmer weather which certainly suggests a dry solder joint is a likely cause. Thanks for the link when i get time i will have a look.

I take it then that all 4 door locks are supposed to be electric as well?

$20/25 for ONE spring.

Back ones are easy to do, but front doors can be interesting :!:
