    ACE light

2002 Discovery ES td5, ACE lamp came on yellow for the first time today while driving. Never had this happen before. Pulled over turned the ignition on and off and all seems fine. I hope this is not a sign of problems to come. System was checked and bled on the last service before it was out of warranty. That was about 5K ago. I am on my own now so any useful pointers would be appreciated. ops:

I wouldnt stress until it comes on and stays on. If you are worried, get it checked out, but most likely it was a software error or a fault that was rectified by turning the vehicle off and restarting it. Matt

Imagine having a ACE light on your computer - it would come on every time Ace made a post here. 8O :!:

    Robbo,

Uncanny, I have a TD5 SII manual disco with ACE - driving home from work on Wednesday night the amber 'ACE' light came on. Pulled over, checked the manual, it said words to the effect of 'don't panic, drive slower and get to a dealer pretty soon'. It being 1730 I thought 'ok' will take it to the garage in the morning. 2km later, horrible noise and cabin fills with acrid smoke. Pulled over, smoke billowing out of bonnet, smell of burning hydraulic fluid. Pop the bonnet and have a nice fire happening on the port side. Put it out, accompanied by the usual purple language at finding an unplanned bbq in one's Landy.

Luckily (!) still under extended warranty, towed to dealer and fixed gratis. Turns out that the ACE pump self imploded for some 'unknown reason'. The old unit is totally stuffed, complete replacement and system bled etc.

dealer reckons that it is not common. Anyone else heard of it? Would not be too keen for a repeat performance out in the gaffa.

Moral of the story - I will be quite suss next time I get an amber ACE light on the dash.

    Cheers

    Mark

Well, if you want to here something Freaky the light came on again almost 2 months later. It happened within 100 metres of the location it happened the first time. Scenario ( 10 minutes from home, a couple of rolling right and left hand bends and then onto a 500 metre straight), it is on the straight that I noticed the light on and the suspension feeling a little soft. As I said it has only happened twice and both times are within 100 metres of each other. 8O 8O

I've had it come on while driving on the sand. I think its just the ACE working too hard when the vehicle is being bounced around.

I thought my ACE light flickered briefly whilst on the beach at Albany,I was stuck in another set of tracks that were tossing us from side to side,it was just as I was breaking out to make my own track as it was getting anoying and rough getting the washing machine treatment.
Perhaps the oil in the ACE system was getting too hot.

I've noticed it (amber ACE warning light) about three times in the last year - seems to happen after the ACE has done a bit of work; ignition off and then on again seems to reset it. Dealer can't explain, says it "shouldn't happen"!? Not a big deal really, but for peace of mind it would be good if someone could perhaps offer a technical explanation as to what's going on - dealer doesn't seem to know! :?

I noticed the same. Turn the truck off/on and it clears. I think once the fault has been logged then the light stays on. The ACE is also switched off seemingly while the light is on. I think it just gets too hot also and needs cool off time.
