Front door lock Blues

Hi All,

Having problem with both front doors on the 96 Series 1 Disco.
You press open doors on keypad doors open lights flash - normal.
Pull handle but door won'nt open, have to put in key, turn to right
raises door latch 2-3mm and door will open.
Turn key to remove from door.
If you happen to not open door before you put key in normal upright
position have to do same procedure again.
If inside have to pull up door latch up for left hand side internal
door catch to work. (R H side works OK on inside)

Anyone know what the problem is

Cheers

Did they both start playing up at the exact same time? It sounds like a spring in the latch mechanisms has broken. Check that the interior lock buttons have a positive snap up/down action. If they move up/down with no change in resistance, the spring is broke and the door is only being half unlocked. This is because the central locking actuator returns to centre after each operation.

Front door lock Blues

BMac,

No first R H Side then Left now Back doors playing up.
Seems to be only on doors with locks all others OK.

Couple of questions
(1 Can Spring be purchased seperately and replaced?
(2 How difficult is it to do, can someone with 10 thumbs and
two fingers do it

front door lock Blues

Matbor,

Central locking OK on all doors, raises all locks fine.
Seem to be locks themselves.
BMac answer re springs on locks, seems to fit the problem
only hope can get springs and not have to replace door locks.
Knowing Landrover I may need to sell an organ to cover the cost
and then some.

Also tried to open you videos, took ages to download, then my computer
kept locking up :x :x

Will try again tomorrow

Baggy,

so the back door is OK? Thats because the latch is a different design. The front/rear doors are designed the same and the spring wears/rusts over time and its amazing how they seem to die around the same age

See parts of this thread http://www.aulro.com/modules.php?name=Foru...iewtopic&t=8023 for more info on the springs.

Removing the latch is fairly easy and once you know how the spring is orientated, easy to insert.

Best if you get a door fab removing tool as it will do less damage.

Give it a go - you can't make it worse

Pull the lock out first and check to see if that spring is missing, see my previous post for link to pictures.... Then you can ring Ritter's up and they will send them to you.
