No, no, no.

I dumped it outside the mechanic because it was getting too traumatic to drive with the babies and the thought of driving from home to the mechanic in 50m stretches with a little nap in between was even worse.

This week I've been working so no time to fiddle.

Won't hear a word against my mechanic, great fella.

Yes, very true. When I've got money I spend it like a fool, when I don't have money I'm a fool without money.

Cheers

Well, got off my arse this afternoon and changed the fuel filter.

Nothing coming out the bottom when I opened the drain thingy. When I unscrewed it - full of clean looking diesel.

New filter on, bit rough the first time round the block. Came back after lunch out and drove home no worries.

Of course I'm still wondering if there's something else. So if anyone knows what the number is for a sedimenter filter or if they have one would be a great help. Reckon I'll drain the rest of the tank tomorrow as well.

So far I'm out $40.

Any thoughts?

Cheers
Simon.

Unless its different to mine (98 Defender) then there is no filter in the sedimenter, just pull it off and give it a good clean out. Will probably be full of dirt/rust/and maybe some water. Before you do it though it pays to buy a new drain plug (the white nylon one) as they get fragile after a while.

Hi Simon
Hopefully its just a case of the fuel filter doing its job,its pulled all the poo out of your fuel and its chock a block full.
In all the farm/mine/shire equipment I have operated, the no1 cause of your symptoms is the fuel filter or air filter blocked.
Hopefully you have fixed it.

Clean plastic jerry can containing fuel from a fill that I ran through the tank without problems.

I'm thinking cumulative effects rather than this one jerryful.

I've had the truck for seven months and haven't yet done a service, and no idea what the last owner did.

What could be the culprit is removing that extrender sieve thing in the filler hose. Drives me mad trying to fill up, and since I'd never actually seen any gunk in the bottom of the sieve, barring the once when I bought from the dodgy's down the street.

Tell me I was wrong.
