    Let me try that again.

Is there anything else in the fuel system that is a less than $2000 fix that I haven't yet looked at?

Done sedimenter, fuel filter, lift pump.

Yeah, I thought the compensator diaphragm was the one on the side of the fuel injector pump. Checked the boost tubes first up, they're a bit worn, but I didn't get any suction. No pump in the tank as far as I know. Even Land Rover couldn't put three fuel pumps in one system; could they?

    Thanks

    $4K still stands

Did you take the crimpers off the fuel line?

Does it blow black smoke and die ?
Any form of exhaust blockage will create what you have described, giving all the symptoms of a fuel system blockage.
I've been a genius and diagnosed this on a farm tractor, (in front of a couple of people) then had the same tractor bite me on the arse several years later with a similar complaint. I whipped the injectors out and sent them off to be serviced, only for them to be sent back as perfect. We checked pump timing, etc, then the diesel mechanic said (over the phone) "what about the spark arrestor in the muffler.." The penny dropped and it was totally blocked. Cleaned it, and the tractor has been fine since.

Now there isn't a spark arrestor in a 300Tdi exhaust, but someone hasn't jammed a spud up the tailpipe in the big city, have they ? or you haven't crushed the muffler, or the guts haven't collapsed in it, or...? just a thought.
What about on the air supply side ?
Take the front of the air cleaner housing off and take it for a run. (just in case there is a blockage in the supply hose)

    furthermore,

before condeming the injector pump you should still eliminate a few things.

    1. eliminate a blockage in the pickup in the tank.
    2. eliminate a fuel line blockage anywhere between the pickup and the injector pump.
    3. eliminate a leak in the line anywhere between the pickup and the liftpump.
    4. check delivery pressure of the lift pump.

    Hmm.

    Seems to be fixed.

    I'm not convinced.

Mechanic went over it, pulled off the fuel tank washed it out, all of that stuff.

    Put in some new fuel.

    Seems to run fine.

    Mechanic isn't convinced either.

Both waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I drained some and thought it was okay.

Mechanic said that what he drained looked okay.

You could be right, and nice if it was.

But, would something bad in fuel get through a new fuel filter and draining and straining, then adding 1/3 new fuel?

All of those things could have been bad, it could have been just a whole bunch of bad stuff ganging up on me.

    Hope so.

    Cheers
