Back in the days of the 120 Land Rovers came with a key lock on the hood to stop that kind of tomfoolery.

when you pump the lift pump....
it should pump till there is pressure in the lines....
then the lever should stay down......
as the pressure will stop it from coming back up....

run down and check this is happening......
i cant remeber if i checked that properly.....

Did that, primer lever isn't held down.

Oil hose that I had to shift earlier was also stopping lever from going down.

Would this have caused the problem?

When I check my sedimeter I always remove the whole unit & not drain through the white drain plug. 1/2" spanner to remove bolt & it just drops down, a little spillage but nothing to worry about.

This way (allthough messier) allows you to wipe the inside of the bowl out, as guaranteed to be silt in bottom & growth needing a good wipe.

Thanks for the advice, Bryce, that's the way I went, wish I'd listened when everyone said don't prime using the primer, although I reckon it made the problem much more obvious.

If I knew anything about how diesels work I might have picked it too. ops:

Picked up the new lift pump today, twins wouldn't let me put it in.

Tomorrow.

Good news, though.

Lift pump.
One of our sponsors just under $200.
Graeme Cooper $117.
Karcraft $cheap

and a spare fuel filter was $18.

On top of that I came up a couple of bucks short and they gave me a break on it.

And they said, 'oh, you'll need these two nuts with that as well.'

Cheap and excellent service.

Can't go wrong with that.

Cheers
