Progress.

Too many hours on the phone to UK. Turns out, just because they list the part on the website doesn't mean they sell the part.

    No, sorry we're moving.

No, sorry, the boss isn't in today and I don't know anything.

No, sorry, that shouldn't be on the website, the prices have gone up and we don't stock it.

No, sorry, we can't change the website, it's a real bugger.

    Yes, we have it.

No, it'll be 60 pounds more - we can't change prices on the website -

No, we don't have it in stock.

No, the supplier won't let us freight directly from them, it has to come to us first.

So, going away a little later than expected.

Oh, the other wonderful answer. We've passed on your email to our Australian supplier who will sell you the price at considerably more in three weeks time when it arrives.

Hmm, that's why I wanted to buy from UK.

Fuel injection pump should be here Thursday.

    Hope, hope, hope.

    $1650.

Compared to cheapest price I could find in Australia - $2500.

    Compared to $1000-$1500 rebuild.

    Now, while everything is out.

Clean radiators, replace oil hose and power steering hose, timng belt, fan and ac belts, don't need to do tensioner bearings.

Anyone have suggestions of what else to do while the bonnet is up?

    Cheers
    Simon

At the last moment, just as we are walking out the door, for a few days way out of phone range, I get the call from the freight people, $400, GST plus import duty.

    Bugger.

Invoice did not mention 4wd equipment, so extra 5%.

Not a happy start to the trip.

Driving back into town, the only message on my phone is from mechanic, not sounding happy.

    It can only mean dollars.

    Jolly thing, though.

Picked up the wheels in Port, they are from the LR dealership there, we park the cough, cough, Subaru next to a shiny 110, and we are sitting there for a good half hour while I empty the car and find a place for four wheels.

Wife says, "how much for the 110?"

So I guess there is hope.

They wanted $35k for a 1999 with 70k on the dial.

    Hmm.

    Maybe not.

Although they did happen to mention another, I think tdi, with only 7k that is floating about the area.

    Hmm.

    Cheers

did you give berrima diesel a call....?
their ads are everywhere you look.....
and while youre spending money...why not get the injectors serviced
    at the same time....

if you want a 110....for that price there is one in the forsale section...
a lot newer than the one you saw.....

    Hmm,

Jokes like that belong in the stars thread, not in the serious tech section.

believe it or not...i wasnt being funny....
the injectors will be the only part of the fuel system that hasnt been looked at.....

servicing them may make little or no difference to performnce...
or it could make a world of difference.....the whole things needs to be tuned anyways.....

    others may have more experience.......

Yeah, but the $xxxx I can't afford to do anything to them for some long time yet.

Whatever you do, don't tell wife, I told her that this was the end of the money for the Defender for quite a while.

Called mechanic $1100 for fitting pump, timing belt, one multi-rib belt, oil line from radiator, power steering line, blah, blah, blah.

Feeling rather jolly about that, I was expecting much more.

    Ha Ha Ha

    It's back.

    Works fine.

    Woo hoo.

Anybody want to buy a fuel injection pump that needs fixing?
